Giles would've beaten Burton by two td's or more. They were to big up front for JIB, just like Riverheads was.

I saw where Giles TE was all state, if Im not mistaken he was #40. They were huge up front, on the sides and in the back. Even their pizza was huge. Goochland just took them out of their style. I have to admit I was shciked when Goochland won, I didint think anyone could have stopped Giles, not PV, not Burton nor Goochland. I wouldnt have thought them all combined would have.

As VTHOKIE said when you have DJ Coles anything is possible.

I was walking right behind him when Goochland's was coming out of the locker room up state and at the time I had no clue who he was but he was a pretty big cat up close. How big is he, he looked about 6'3" maybe 190-200 lbs. The funny thing is he was behind everybody else walking with 2 cheerleaders..... I now know why, he was a stud on the field.

What is all this talk about teams dropping down? I know now that Lee, Va. High and Lebanon are entering the region, what is that going to do to the div.1 and div 2 balance? I dont think they will allow that many teams to drop because it will throw the balance way off

How is it going to throw the balance way off??? The "balance" is already way off in regards to the rest of the state...this will actually "even" things out...

You are 100% right GMan Curently Div 1 in Reagon D is not just small but Ultra small (Heck Region B has a Div 1 school larger than GC) and in Region IV Div3 is MUCH smaller that the other AA Regions. I have said it before and will say it again the whole Div thing is a load of Crap IMHO elemanate the Divisions and go to a 4A or 5A system (like 90% of all the other states)

**sup-rbeast** · January 26th, 2007, 10:59 AM

it doesn't matter if WC did beat Giles...or if Riverheads DID beat WC....the team A beat team B, and C beat them argument never holds up. I love the LPD, and I saw nearly every LPD team play this year. Furthermore I saw Burton and PV each 6 times. I witnesses the arse kickin PV took from Giles. And I'll say this, a snowball has a better chance in Hades than Burton would have had against Giles. Just beacuse Burton played down to the competition offered by Riverheads doesn't make Riverheads great. Just because Riverheads upset WC doesn't make them great. The way I see it, the best team I saw this year was Giles (I didn't see Richlands). In Region D, Division 2 was weak this past couple of years, so weak in fact that many Division 1 teams were more competitive than usual. Not belittling Norton, but the current run of athletes is nearly over. Then Burton goes back to being as Burton has always been,.. good but not really elite. I congratulate Burton on what they have accomplished in the past 3 years, but really the state game shouldn't have even been close. Riverheads was outmatched from the get go, but Norton failed to take the game in the 1st half when Riverheads was trying to give it to em. I watched it, I was hoping the LPD would bring one home, I wasn't biased towards either team, but Burton blew it early on. And to say they could have beaten Giles, hahaha, maybe if the Giles JV was all that showed up.

I disagree 05 Haysi IMHO would have beaten Burton

And Clintwood DID beat Burton in 04 and I think Haysi would have as well.

This year 06 Burton was clearly the best team and would have made state (Honaker could have put a scare in them though)

As far as these other teams having a better shot at state than Burton has had Who knows there is no doubt that Reagon B is the new bully on the block but they will get there chance at them (Like I said if this had been in place the last 3 seasons Burtion IMHO would have made there first trip to state this year)

IF all 4 teams do drop Making the playoffs in Div 1 will have just got ALOT tougher (Almost like Div 2 while RC was Div 2 with and 8-2 and 9-1 teams sitting at home) All in all I think on avg the Quality of the Div1 team the Region sends will improve

I think 2004 Rye Cove would have also beaten Burton

The same group of kids play all the sports at every school man. DB is 5A and the majority of their guys play football and baseball or football and basketball. For Lee High to be allowed to play in single A is ridiculous. What other state would they be single A??? KY they'd be 3A, TN they'd be 3A. Geographical hardship??? Well that's just an excuse for 840 cry babies who want to play smaller schools!!!

If you ratio the number of students to the number of athletes, I am sure that Lee High would rank well below schools like Gate City, Powell Valley, and even Appalachia.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well no kiddin man. You guys have twice as many students so if PV has 50 football players and you guys have 75 then the ratio at PV would be higher!!!!
